I mixed HIV blood with zobo drinks - Woman confesses
The chairman, Nigeria Medical Association, Ogun State chapter, Dr Azim Kunle Ashimi, on Thursday, said Human Immunodeficiency virus could not be transmitted outside the human body
Ashimi made this assertion while reacting to a claim by a woman
who called in on a radio programme by Wazobia FM, on Wednesday night, that she mixed HIV-positive blood she collected with a syringe into the zobo drinks she sold to people within her vicinity.
The doctor said, “HIV cannot survive well outside the human body. If it is mixed with treated water, the virus will not survive.
“If you examine the zobo drink itself, it has its own acidity and putting HIV-positive blood in it will only neutralise the potency of the virus
Speaking further, Ashimi stressed that HIV cannot even be transmitted through saliva, especially when the affected person kissed a partner or relative.
“If the person that is HIV-positive has a sore with blood in the mouth, it will take a high quantity of blood from the carrier to infect the person they are kissing.”
A yet-to-be-identified HIV-positive woman had earlier said that she mixed her blood in the zobo drink she sells in order to get other people infected.
The show anchor had asked listeners to call in and confess what they do in the marketplace that people are unaware of and what they aren’t proud of.
The zobo seller said, “I went to the hospital six months ago and I was told I had HIV.
“I started mixing my blood with the zobo I make to sell and I sell to many people.
“I extract my blood with a syringe and mix it in the zobo. I was a nurse before but when I was confirmed HIV positive, I had to stop.
“I’m not happy with what I have done but I am happy that I will not die alone.
“I have been doing it for six months now and I pray God will forgive me.”

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has explained why its men arrested on Wednesday a skit maker, Sunday Joshua, popularly known on social media as “De-General”.
NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Mr Femi Babafemi said the comedian was arrested, following a raid at a notorious drug joint in Lagos.
Babafemi said the suspect was arrestd in the early hours of Wednesday, following the raid at Orchid Estate in Lekki area of Lagos State.
According to Babafemi, Degeneral has made a confessional statement in custody, admitting ownership of the drugs recovered from his house,
He said that the NDLEA operatives acted on credible intelligence by raiding the drug joint in the estate, where three suspects were arrested with illicit drugs.
He said the drugs seized from the suspects included 200 sachets of 225mg Tramadol and 1.5kg of cannabis sativa.
According to Babafemi, in the course of the operation, some persons including the suspected dealer ran away with bags suspected to contain exhibits.
He said a trail showed that they ran into a house located at 2B Saula Akinlolu Way, Orchid Estate, which was the residence of the 22-year-old comedian.
“The young men started to make noise to prevent a search. The operatives introduced themselves as officers of NDLEA and submitted themselves for search before entry.
“This was done and a search was conducted. The search led to the recovery of drug exhibits including cannabis sativa; Tramadol 225mg, and some paraphernalia for drug use.
“This was after the suspect had requested to record on video the search, which the officers out of sense of civility allowed.
“The video trending on social media was the moment the suspect and his friends decided to disrupt the bid to conduct a search of the house.
